Every now and then I am painting with "art graf", which is water-soluble graphite. It is even harder to tame than watercolor, but creates this charming softness and sometimes it's really nice to paint without having to think of color choices. I really like the personality of the last owl. He looks like he is totally happy with who he is, expressing his own individuality. We should all appreciate much more how unique we all are!

I like all the owls! :)
Thank you, Isidora! That makes me happy!
Ooooh, I’ve come to love painting in monochrome! Perhaps it’s because my “main” medium now is , which is basically monochrome. (I have my first solo show in July I’m getting ready for and that’s both exciting and a little scary 🫣) I do adore color though too - and lots of it! - but not for me to work with. I love the “idea” of painting, decorating or wearing more color but I find that I really can’t and need a very limited palette to remain calm and relaxed so I’ve learned to look to the Outside World for my color cravings and absorb just enough to feel balanced by it, if that makes sense. This means I can look (and enjoy sporadically) but not touch ;)
I’ve recently started experimenting with painting (watercolor and maybe soon gouache) very small floral elements in a very limited palette in a kind of all over pattern, just this side of “wallpaper”. Order (in the repeating elements) but with good healthy splashes of chaos (in the subtle shifts and surprises among them). I have this idea of creating larger works made of these tiny floral elements that draw you in like a secret garden: little worlds within the big. I love getting down on the ground and looking at the miniature worlds in nature at that fairy-like level and that’s kinda what I have in my mind’s eye for all the above. (Oddly, it’s helping me coalesce the ideas by writing this down to you here ;)
One day as I was lying on the ground soaking in nature, I had my glasses off. (I’m horribly near-sighted). When the are off, I can see up close too really well. Anyway, I focused on about 2 square inches of the ground and saw so much in that tiny square. It looked like it was truly a miniature landscaped garden and I imagined there was a Fairy in charge of that one square snd the joy and pleasure it probably had in caring for this small (manageable) spot. This was maybe 8 years ago now but I’ve never forgotten the wonder and insight that afternoon gave me.
I think this is why I love and relate to your words and illustrations: seems you have a similar point of view maybe 🩵🥰

Oops, my “main” medium got cut off - haha. It’s woodburning 🔥
