*covered

January at moments felt like living in an ice garden. This season is very dear to me, as I feel my soul is allowed to retreat. If it weren’t unbearable for the body, I would like to lie down and rest among the silent, frozen grasses, sharing a winter sleep with nature to recover from all the hassles of material life, and awaken afterwards, reborn, when touched by the holy light of God.

*of calm Christmas days

I had to wait so long for this film to be developed. However, I don’t want to skip these pictures, because I love keeping a chronological order on my blog, and I really like them. I took down the Christmas tree quite late this year – only about a week ago. It was such a wonderful tree!

*ice crystals

We are having too many foggy and gloomy days in a row again, which makes it hard to tell the days from the nights, at least in terms of how it feels. So I look back on those frosty mornings when the sun was just rising, and I took some macro pictures of the frost-covered yarrows. When the world was just waking from a dreamless sleep and touched by the first red sunbeams, it was the most peaceful and sanguine moment of the day.

*when the winter sun rises

It has been a while since my last blogpost, so I thought I will make a little update. Today we had the first snow of the new year! It was a really welcome change after some really dark days. The snow makes it also inside home much brighter, so I used the chance to make some pictures of my workroom and current watercolor paintings and then we made a nice walk in the forest. What else can I tell you? I was very busy with painting and got to know some really nice people over my illustration instagram account. I must say, the illustrator community is really lovely and supporting, it is really a joy to communicate with those creatives! They are different than people of the photography community, not that they are any less lovable, but I get the impression they are more open and "childhearted" in a way. Anyway! I hope that the snow stays some days at least and I will soon show you more of my watercolor paintings again here! Until then I wish you a wonderful time wherever you are!

*gingerbread baking

Like every year, I made some gingerbread for Christmas and wanted to share some of the analogue photos with you. An easy recipe you can find here on one of my old blogposts!

*flower forest

I'm very excited to show you my recent watercolor paintings – mostly flowers, as you can see. It seems I just can't get enough of painting them! I also created a pattern from one of my "flower forests" for my Spoonflower shop. I think it’s lovely for fabrics! Imagine bedclothes in this pattern – so dreamy! I especially enjoy experimenting with different color combinations to create a harmonious feeling. Of course, that’s very personal, but I’m happy with the results.

Have you been creative already in the new year? What have you been up to?

*ice needles

I hope the new year is treating you well!

We had the most beautiful frost today. Overnight it was very misty, and in the morning everything was covered with a sparkling layer that looked like millions of tiny ice needles – very fragile and the brightest white! I took several pictures, but the ones here were taken before Christmas. Apparently, farmers are spraying some kind of white powder on the trees in the forests to fight bark beetles. We have an incredible amount of damage in our forests here; it's really sad to see. The white tree trunks do look quite surreal when you walk by!

I’ve started a new journal for 2020 and also made my first watercolor paintings of the year. I’m looking forward to showing you more of my artworks soon! Have a cozy evening and stay warm!
